Hekla Energy GmbH negotiates for a new geothermal drilling project in Viborg, Denmark
Hekla Energy GmbH a subsidiary of Iceland Drilling has reached an agreement with Viborg Fjernvarme, Denmark, for a geothermal drilling project in Jutland, Denmark. The drilling contract was signed on Tuesday 6th of December. The project involves drilling for geothermal energy for four district heating companies Viborg, Tonder, Skive and Aabenraa, all located in Jutland.

SF III signs an agreement to acquire an 82% stake in Iceland Drilling from Miðengi ehf.
SF III slhf., an investment fund operated by Stefnir hf., has signed an agreement to acquire an 82% stake in Jarðboranir hf. (Iceland Drilling) from Miðengi ehf., a subsidiary of Íslandsbanki hf. The owners of SF III are three pension funds, Festa, Gildi and LSR as well Samherji hf., and SÍA I, private equity fund operated by Stefnir hf. Miðengi ehf. will continue as a shareholder in the company and own an 18% stake. The share purchase agreement is subject to a number of conditions, including but not limited to the approval of the Icelandic Competition Authorities.

Jardboranir (Iceland Drilling Company) secures a new geothermal drilling contract in New Zealand
Jardboranir has reached agreement with one of New Zealand’s largest energy companies, Mighty River Power for a drilling project in New Zealand. The contract, valued at ISK 3bn, will be signed later this month. The project involves drilling in the Ngatamariki geothermal steam field, some 17 km north-east of Lake Taupo in the middle of New Zealand’s North Island. The energy will supply a new electricity generation plant in the area. The plant will initially output 82 MW, and it will be extended in stages. The contract has a minimum term of two years. Jardboranir’s largest drilling rig, Týr, will be transported half-way around the world for the project. Between 30 and 40 experts from Jardboranir are expected to travel overseas to work on the project and its preparation.
